Medical camp can help your older teen prepare for a possible career in medicine. A pre med camp may be ideal for your college-bound child who craves exposure to technical training and real-world skills that a career in the medical field requires. These may be led by doctors and nurses at the top of their profession who can provide insight for campers through workshops, activities and hands-on exercises. For younger kids, there are junior medical camps designed toward elementary, middle and junior high kids.
We can always dream…. Our dedicated medical professionals are great with kids and remain available around the clock. The infirmary is supplied with modern diagnostic tools, such as rapid strep kits and community physician-directed protocols; these often allow us to evaluate and treat kids without having to leave camp. When campers have a fever or display symptoms of a contagious disease, they can be kept in the Health Center at the discretion of the Camp Nurse.
Each year, Dell Med offers several summer day camps for middle and high school students in Central Texas. Providing these experiences is just one way the Dell Med team encourages members of the local community to pursue careers that contribute to health transformation. High school and middle school students will interact with and learn from physicians, scientists and health care professionals via Zoom and Canvas. This year has highlighted the need to better understand the impacts of global events on our health and our communities.
The Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center Summer Teen Volunteer Program is a great opportunity for high school students to gain exposure and experience to the hospital setting. Through this program, our teens learn to provide great customer service to our patients and families by helping enhance the Patient Experience. At this moment, we are unsure as to when we will be able to resume business as usual. Although we would love to have our teens on campus, we will not be offering a Summer Teen program this year. If you are interested in the possibility of being a part of a virtual teen program, please visit this website periodically for program updates.
